Forget overseas, outsource to my Mom
I love the concept behind HireMyMom -- a lot of professional women spend time out of the full-time workforce while raising kids. Why not use the power of the internet to satisfy companies' needs for excellent workers who can work on a project or piecework basis?
I can see this being especially useful for people like my HBS classmates. We're 11 years out of school, and so many of my friends want to do meaningful work while they raise the kids. Historically, the composition of professional work -- travel to an office, inflexible schedules, full-time work hours -- meant there was no way for them to participate. (Not to mention the sexism that viewed professional women / moms as unable to participate.)
As much as India was the fad of this decade for outsourcing, I think the unexplored, untapped power of our "MBA Mommies" is an overlooked asset in this country and a site like HireMyMom is a great step in righting this oversight.
So let's outsource to the living room. That will be better all around.
