I hadn't thought of that David!

David Manaser has a greatpoint on his blog this a.m. on scams/a>:

Every once in a while I hear somebody complaining about job posting scams on one of the paid boards. They are out there, but it's not a huge problem because the barrier to entry to posting a fake ad on one of these boards is either the cost of a posting or acquiring soemeone else's credit card information. But with the trend towards RSS job aggregation, its going to get worse. It'll get worse for the same reason that I get Viagra spam in my email inbox and not by postal service. It's cheap.

What tools will the scrapers come up with to conquer this problem? It's a smart groups of gals and guys at Indeed, WorkZoo and SimplyHired, so I'm interested to see what happens!

no doubt, there will be posting spam. possibly this is one reason to keep a non-zero listing fee, but i don't know if that's the best solve.

another way might be to rank/score the source of data, so even if you don't get rid of spam you reduce relevance when presenting or matching. not a perfect solve either, but that's probably getting closer.

you could ultimately move to a fully-authenticated posting scenario where you require a lot more info about the publisher, but i think that might be overkill.

as you say, we'll have to put on our thinking caps there -- it will happen...
