The Day Kerry (Deservedly) Lost the Election
Will Safire calls out the underhanded gay baiters. I think this was a critical, critical error of the Kerry team.
That it was planned to hurt the Bush-Cheney ticket politically can't be doubted (as Safire notes, if Kerry and Edwards meant to compliment the Cheneys, why did their campaign manager describe Mary Cheney as "fair game" -- that's hardly friendly, and more the language you'd use if you'd intended to be hurtful).
Hopefully, this bit of hateful political theater will backfire, and at the very least, the Iowa Electronic Markets seem to indicate it has.
