The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin
My own
pick for best sales book is a bit offbeat: The Autobiography of Benjamin
Franklin. And I'm not just picking it because he appears on our favorite
denomination, the hundred-dollar bill ! Ben Franklin, in addition to
being a scientist, a diplomat, and an innovator, was first and foremost
a printer and a seller of books and pamphlets, most famously, Poor
Richard's Almanac. He invented the American can-do spirit and was in
many ways the first American. This is a great story of a young guy
taking control of his own future (running away from Boston to seek his
fame in Philadelphia), surviving the tough breaks (stranded, penniless,
for over a year in England by an absent-minded governor) and emerging as
one of the leading lights of his century. I hope you'll enjoy
it.
