About Stone
Updated July 2005
Well, it's worth inserting a few words here about me.
I'm Marc Cenedella, born in Fredonia, NY in the last century (Wikipedia entry on Fredonia here.) I currently live in Manhattan's East Village and am publisher of the world's largest $100K+ job website, TheLadders.com.
Since starting in August 2003, we've grown to over 440,000 subscribed readers and send out over 20,000 $100K+ jobs in sales, marketing, finance, HR, operations, IT and general management in our newsletters each month. We're now 60 employees strong and are very proud to have Matrix Partners as our venture capital partner -- one of only 3 firms with 5 partners named to the Forbes Midas 100. We've also been very fortunate to have Andy Kaslow and Brian Swette join our Board.
I was previously SVP, Finance & Operations at HotJobs.com, which we sold to Yahoo! in spring 2002 for $436 mm. Due to clever timing on my part, I missed a good bit of the economic benefit of that :)
Prior to that, I've been an LBO investor, an investment banker, and an exporter of dog food to Japan.
My interests include Worst, Worster, and Worstest Ever Album Covers, the history of writing systems, writing reviews on Amazon, and Third World travelling.
I'm a graduate of Fredonia High School (where I swam the butterfly under the banner of our mascot -- I kid you not -- the Fredonia Hillbillies), Yale (B.A. in Political Science) and Harvard Business School (M.B.A., High Distinction), where I was named a Baker Scholar.

Browsed the comments, and noticed some criticism. Here's a positive post. Keep up the good work and don't sweat the small stuff.

Introduction of me:
I so happy to se that there are some people that are interested in history of writing systems!
I have for years tried to study the ancient writing system of the Old Persian Empire but it’s very difficult!
What’s the picture of that stone on your web site from?
Have a nice day mr / Nima in Sweden :-)

So what was wrong with the Fortune article on Monster? Why was this muckraking?

Bush-Rice ? Give me a f**king break, rich boy. By the way, most educated people do not find the term "third world" acceptable when referring to his or her travels... I suppose the dog food business plays by a different set of standards.

First of I would like to say that I loved the worst album cover article. My only problem is your criticism on the cartoon of Sharon. I personally think that it is quite tasteless, but to call something, that clearly shows that the maker does not agree with certain ISRAELI (note not Jewish) political decisions Jew hate is a bit hypocritical. My point is, why does everyone call such pictures of Putin or whoever, criticism but once in involves Israel it is straight away discrimination against Jews (aka Semitism).
So to some it up once more: I agree that the cartoon is tasteless but to call something that is meant as critique on Israeli political decisions, Jew hate seems a bit short thinking to me.
These are of course my personal views and I understand if you see the situation differently.

I've got a few that probably qualify but the one that beats all of the ones you have is called "Organ Fantasy" (in Hi-Fi Betty Staples). A lady wearing net stockings is sitting on the floor of a festive setting (balloons (mostly elongated) and streamers). She's looking up with a smile on her face and her arms outstretched.
Maybe not a worst-of but my CD cover is pretty bad. www.richardtrible.com, check the first review on the left.

Marc:
I spoke too soon. I thought the "Worst Album Covers" bit you had on your site was so cool -I assumed the rest of your pages would be cool as well. (First three letters in "assume" = ass + you+me) I blew it. Sorry- Your blogs are filled with the same old (same ol') right-wing drivel... Kinda like Rush Limbaugh with an ivy-league 'tude.
I retract my above flattering comment.. and many apologies for taking up your space.

Marc:
I am adding that "worst album covers" page from your blog to my site. I am also am adding your home sight as a link: http://bigmattress.com/weblog/
If you would like me to take it off, I certainly will.
Please let me know what else I can do to help defray your costs (except for sending $$$). Your site doesn't tell people what they can do, except to "click on the google ads" which I couldn't tell at quick read where those were.
Most importantly, on your home page you have an "e-mail me" clickable that is not really an e-mail address (at least my e-mail server won't treat it like one." It just goes to a
news -at- cenedella.com non-functional address.

Marc,
Love the blog! I really love SalesLadder as well. Look forward to it every Monday morning, and if it comes late in the day I'm wondering what you were up to the night before. I enjoy your intro's to the weeks SalesLadder, and I would encourage you to expand upon this area every week. Readers can look to SalesLadder as more than just a jobs newsletter, but as true random element weekly entertainment. Great work!
As a second related subject, could you list your lessons learned in beginning www.cenedella.com -from the perspective of owning a domain, choosing a hosting partner, and how you choose Moveable type?

Steve
