World Building in a Crazy World
November 3, 2009 | (No Comments)
We’ve had artist Jonathan Harris come and speak at TheLadders — he is amazing and the way he utilizes Internet technology and social media to create art makes one feel that we are still at the start of something very big. Maybe even that we are before the start, like early 15th century Florence. (I’ve cried watching We Feel Fine “performed” in public.”)
He just released World Building in a Crazy World, based on a brief talk he gave last month, and this quote stuck with me:
You will become known for doing what you do.
Out of context, it seems obvious (hey, in context it seemed obvious too).
What he is saying is, do not imitate actions, imitate spirit; do not do something to become known; do what you do, and you will become known.
Subtle differences, substantial differences.
