I agree. LinkedIn is a business social networking site that probably benefits recruiters more than job searchers. However, I don't understand how that puts the President at fault after having been “warned”. The Ladders is far superior as a platform for actually finding jobs.

Will the The Ladders be hosting any town hall events such as this any time soon? Can The Ladders set the record straight and invite the President to redeem his reputation?

Perhaps The Ladders should wait a while until the fallout from the “well-received” recent membership change (re: ”Bye bye”) settles….

The Mel Gibson joke was pretty funny. ”Anti-Obama” sentiment started on Day 1 of his election bid.

No offense, but I don't, and never have seen LinkedIn as a competitor to the Ladders. The Ladders started out as a job board, no different than Monster, Hot Jobs, etc. Your niche was the $100K plus jobs and segmentation across a limited scope of industries.
LinkedIn started as a peer-to-peer professional networking tool to connect people and build a community across all industries, all levels, etc. It has continued to expand it's functionality and offer new features for the community. I have found it immensely useful to find jobs and target individuals within the company that might be able to help me get my resume noticed…to have _some_ human contact to follow-up with rather than just applying online and never hearing anything. Every interview I've had in the past 18 months has come via LinkedIn; whether being contacted by the hiring company's HR or a recruiter, or through my own networking efforts via contacts.
It's also a great resource for soliciting other opinions when doing research, looking for help, etc.
I would use the two sites in parallel, but don't see the Ladders as a substitute for LinkedIn.

As for John Stewart's comments, they're for comedic effect and I doubt he's ever really had to use it as a career tool. Also, the segments/comments they show of individuals speaking are taken out of context of what that person was saying, as we don't see the entirety of their comment…
