But, hey, my resume is OK. Right?
December 21, 2009 | (No Comments)
Last week, I shared with you the numbers on how we score resumes. We received a lot of email from you asking for more data, so here it is.
We’ve just launched our first customer satisfaction surveys for our resume-writing business so that we can continually get better and better at helping you through your transition.
Before people go through the process of writing a professional resume, we frequently hear this comment: “I know my own story, I know how to write English, and I have paper. Why in Hades do I need to pay somebody to do this???”
After the professional resume writing process, here is how people grade their “old” resumes:

It’s pretty clear that after seeing the finished product, our customers are no longer happy with what they originally had. And it’s sad, because, having reviewed thousands of resumes over the years, I’d have to agree – most of them are pretty bad.
So how do people grade their new resumes? Here’s that chart:

Two things pop out of this chart for me.
First, customers are much happier with a professionally written resume once they see the finished product. A comment we hear a lot is, “I didn’t recognize who this amazing guy was at first. But then I realized it was me!” And making customers happy is really great. When you can feel and see how much your efforts have changed people’s job hunts and their confidence, it feels just fantastic. We love helping out.
The second thing I notice is that we are not yet perfect. Seven percent of customers rate us below 6, and that is just not acceptable. We’re following up with all of these people to explore further just what exactly we did wrong, and how we can get them to the point where they are happy with their new resume. Stay tuned for more improvements from us.
So in summary, there’s all the data, right out in front of you. Hopefully that gives you a better view into how we’re doing so far, and a sense of how seriously we take our mission of helping you through the job hunt.
OK, folks, a Merry Christmas wish to all of you. I’ll be in Cleveland celebrating with my brother, our wives, and his three beautiful girls. And probably eating too much pumpkin pie.
Happy holidays to you!
